How often does the puzzle reset?
A new cricketer is revealed every day at midnight. You get one puzzle per mode per day — one for IPL Mode and one for International Mode. That's two shots at your streak every single day.
Can I play previous days' puzzles?
No — like Wordle, Guess the Cricketer is a daily puzzle. Yesterday's answer is shown after the new puzzle goes live, but you can't replay past puzzles for points. This is what makes the daily streak meaningful.
What if I type a cricketer's name and it doesn't register?
The game uses a verified database of cricketers. If a name doesn't appear in the autocomplete suggestions, that cricketer isn't in the current database. Type the first few letters and use the suggestions that appear.
How do I maintain my streak?
Play every day and get the correct answer within 9 guesses. Missing a day or failing to guess correctly in 9 tries resets your streak to zero. IPL Mode and International Mode have separate streaks.
What does the shareable result card look like?
The result card shows a colour-coded grid of your guesses — green, yellow, red, and blue tiles — without showing the cricketer's name. Anyone who sees it can see how many guesses you needed, without the puzzle being spoiled for them.
Are the cricketers only Indian?
In IPL Mode, all cricketers have played in the IPL — which includes overseas players. In International Mode, cricketers from all major cricketing nations are included. The initial launch database is focused on Asian cricketers, with global expansion planned.
How is this different from Wordle?
Wordle is about guessing a five-letter word by matching letters. Guess the Cricketer is about identifying a person using career clues. You're not matching letters — you're using cricket knowledge to eliminate and home in on the right player. The colour-coded feedback is inspired by Wordle but the game mechanics are completely different.
Is it free to play?
Yes. Completely free. You need a SportsFanatics account to save your streak and scores — sign up at app.sportsfanatics.co.in using Google login in about 30 seconds. No credit card, no subscription.
